Poetry · Writing

We crunch and squeak
Across frozen snow
Our snowshoes slip
Into frozen over tire tracks
And punch through
The thin crust into
The deep soft powder beneath

Sweating and breathing hard
We labor through
Turn after turn
until we reach
A break in the trees

The valley spreads out below
Dusted in powder sugar snow
Peaks and ridges rise
Across the way
Bright white
Against the brilliant blue sky

We take it in
And are refreshed
