Winter Textures

In the cold air you can see
Textures of winter all around

Mulch in the garden beds
Expanded and opened
Like a sponge
From the freezing and
Not quite thawing and
Freezing again

Leaves glisten in the light
Frost making them look
Like someone has sprinkled
Them with silver-white glitter

A log lies across a creek
Slick near the culvert outlet
Its coat of ice
Pock-marked from
The splashing of water
Dripping long teeth of ice
