Walking Companion

Daily, as I walk
I talk to you
Telling you
About my day
And what I see

I talk of
Dogs and chickens
Peacocks and squirrels
Songbirds and ducks
Trees and flowers

In late summer
I smack my lips
Eating handfuls
Of the ripe blackberries
Just to be a tease

Now, as I see the snow berries
White globes on defoliated stalks
I just wish
I could toss a few
At you through this phone!
