Rainy Memories

Raindrops drum on the rooftop
And run in sheets down the windows
Reminding me of days past

Clad in black galoshes
And yellow slicker
Stomping through puddles

Racing against friends
Piloting twig boats
Down rain-swollen creeks

Standing at the bus stop
Splashing the puddles at friends
Out morning water fights
Leaving us soaked and shivering
All morning long

Driving my car full throttle
Down the hill to where
The road flooded at
The always-clogged storm drain
To see how much water I could spray
