Windstorm

The screen door bangs
Against the jamb
Startling us

Wind roars
Through the trees
And between houses

Outside the window
The fraying prayer flags
Flutter and snap
Straining on their line

The great pines
Sway and dance
Tops moving
Forward and back

Branches waving
In all directions
As if trying
To maintain balance

  1. Lovely. We are having the wind this morning and it reminds me of the years of watching the trees sway at our house in Bellevue.

    1. I remember those storms. it was always fun to stand at the living room windows watching the Douglas Firs in the greenbelt off the NW corner of the property as they played in the wind!
