Squid Jiggin’

Huddled
In the cold pre-dawn drizzle
At the pier’s end

Black smudges against the city lights
Peering over the rail
At pools of light
cast by spotlights on the water

Rod tips rise
And fall
Rise
And fall

Causing underwater lures to dance
Inviting their nocturnal prey
